Transforming an Existing Store into Autobarn's Latest Corporate Retail Experience

Airey Building Group was engaged to deliver the complete refurbishment of Autobarn Upper Coomera, transforming the existing store into Autobarn’s latest national corporate retail format while allowing the business to remain operational throughout the majority of construction.

The 650m² retail fitout was completed within an accelerated four-week programme, with the store continuing to trade for three of the four weeks. Careful staging, detailed planning and close coordination with store management ensured minimal disruption to customers while delivering a complete transformation of the retail environment.

The result is a modern, vibrant retail destination that reflects Autobarn’s updated corporate identity while enhancing both the customer shopping experience and staff efficiency.

The complete refurbishment included:

  • Full internal retail store refurbishment

  • Installation of new LED track lighting throughout

One of the most significant challenges of this project was completing the refurbishment while the business continued trading.

For three of the four construction weeks, the Autobarn team remained open to customers, requiring all works to be carefully staged to maintain safe public access while progressively transforming the store.

Through careful programming and close communication with store management, Airey Building Group successfully delivered the project with minimal disruption to daily operations, allowing the client to continue serving customers throughout the majority of the refurbishment.

The fitout completely transformed the store to align with Autobarn’s latest corporate retail standards.

A brand-new internal layout was created to improve customer flow, maximise product visibility and provide a more intuitive shopping experience. The installation of a new custom-built parts counter and modern point-of-sale area enhanced operational efficiency while creating a professional customer service environment.

New display shelving and merchandising systems were strategically positioned throughout the store to improve product presentation and showcase Autobarn’s extensive product range in line with the company’s national retail branding.

Lighting plays a critical role in retail environments, influencing both customer experience and product presentation.

To modernise the store, new LED track lighting was installed throughout the showroom, significantly improving illumination while creating a brighter, more contemporary shopping environment.

The transformation was further enhanced with a complete repaint of both the interior and exterior of the building, giving the store a fresh new appearance that reflects Autobarn’s current corporate identity. New signage completed the upgrade, delivering a strong street presence and reinforcing brand consistency.

Despite the challenges of working within a live retail environment, Airey Building Group successfully completed the 650m² refurbishment in just four weeks.
