A Secure and Functional Facility for Frontline Policing

Airey Building Group was engaged to deliver the complete fitout for the Queensland Police Service Burleigh Heads Police Beat, transforming the tenancy at 2 Park Avenue into a secure, professional facility for public reception, interviews, administration and staff operations.

The project required close coordination across building works, joinery, electrical services, data, CCTV, access control, fire detection, signage, furniture and staff amenities. Each element was planned to meet the operational requirements of a busy public-facing police facility.

The completed fitout provides QPS with a durable and practical workplace that supports secure daily operations while presenting a clear, professional and accessible front-of-house environment for the Burleigh Heads community.

Project Scope

The project included:

The primary objective was to create a police beat that balances public accessibility with the privacy, security and functionality required for frontline operations.

The plan brings together a welcoming reception and waiting area with controlled staff zones, interview facilities, workstations, storage and a dedicated meal room. Fire-rated linings to the interview and waiting room walls add another layer of performance where it matters most.

The result is a clear and practical workplace that helps officers serve the community while maintaining appropriate separation between public and operational areas.

Security systems were treated as a core part of the fitout rather than an afterthought.

The CCTV package includes internal and external Avigilon cameras, continuous recording, network video storage and dedicated monitoring positions for live viewing and playback.

An Integriti access control system supports four QPS-format card readers, monitored electric mortice locks and controlled movement through key doors.

The security scope also incorporates duress buttons and strobe lights, giving staff purpose-built emergency support within the workplace.

Together, these systems provide a coordinated security platform suited to the day-to-day requirements of a modern police facility.

The reception area establishes a professional and recognisable public-facing presence for QPS.

A custom reception counter, 15mm toughened glass, clear anodised aluminium framing and a solid bulkhead create a durable front counter with clear sightlines. Police checker graphics, the entry crest and illuminated signage reinforce the facility’s identity from the shopfront through to the reception zone.

The interview room includes fire-rated wall linings, privacy blinds and carefully coordinated services, supporting confidential conversations within a secure and practical setting.

A government facility depends on services that perform reliably, remain easy to maintain and support staff throughout the working day.

The fitout included new power circuits, USB charging points, energy-efficient lighting, emergency fittings, Cat6A cabling, patch panels, Wi-Fi points, television connections and a dedicated data cabinet supply. Air-conditioning alterations and system balancing were coordinated with the new room layout.

Kitchen appliances, a boil-and-chill unit, new hot water, furniture, storage and staff amenities complete a workplace designed to be functional from the first day of operation.
